Brooklyn four-piece CHAPPO make driving, psychedelic, and post-punk-influenced indie rock. Centered around Baton Rouge native lead singer/songwriter and guitarist Alex Chappo and Seattle-born keyboardist Chris Olson, the band also includes drummer Zac Colwell and guitarist Dave Feddock.
‘Future Former Self’ is the intriguing second album from the band, out on Caroline International.
It’s a cosmic body of work that has received praise from NPR, Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, Radio X and KCRW, and where the members of CHAPPO explore the abstract nature of time and the experience it has on the perception of reality. In CHAPPO’s world, the concept of time is twisted hopelessly out of focus. Like Rene, the character at the centre of this interstellar journey that is ‘Future Former Self’, the band seems to have recently travelled back from a distant black hole, bringing with them a kaleidoscope of new and mesmerising sounds.
CHAPPO were formed in the East Village of New York in 2009 and has since built an enthusiastic and rambunctious following. Splitting the difference between the guitar-driven psychedelia of ‘60s west coast rock and the spiritual witch doctor moonshine of Dr. John, they tour constantly and have supported the likes of Of Montreal, Big Data, Imagine Dragons, The Flaming Lips. They will be touring the UK and Europe in early 2016, dates to be announced in due course.
CHAPPO’s music has featured in a load of syncs including ads Apple iPod Touch, Macy’sand Sears and the TV programmes ‘90120’ HBO’s ‘Hung’ and NBC’s ‘Up All Night’.
